Yordenis Ugas suffers a fractured orbital bone against Errol Spence Jr, the same serious eye injury the American inflicted on Kell Brook

Yordenis Ugas suffered a fractured orbital bone in his loss to Errol Spence Jr on Saturday night.

This is not the first time Spence Jr has inflicted such an injury, as Kell Brook endured the same fate after being stopped in the 11th round of his fight with the Texas resident in 2017.

This was the fifth loss in Ugas's professional boxing career.

This was the fifth loss in Ugas’s professional boxing career.

Spence Jr was on top for much of the fight, but Ugas enjoyed periods of success, most notably when he had Spence Jr rocked in the sixth round.

It was not going to be, however, for the Cuban as the ringside doctor pulled him from the fight midway through the 10th round due to swelling around his right eyeallowing Spence Jr to add the WBA title to his collection along with the IBF and WBC belts.

The eye appeared to begin to swell after a punch in the seventh round and by the tenth round it had completely closed.

According to Ugas’ team, he will not need emergency surgery and the injury will be re-evaluated once the swelling subsides.

“The referee stopped the fight, but I wanted to continue to the end.” Ugas said after the fight: “I definitely had a chance to win the fight in the sixth round, but he recovered well.”

Ugas will most likely be out for the foreseeable future as we have seen similar injuries to Kell Brook and Errol Spence Jr keep them out of the ring for an extended period.

Spence and Crawford have been going back and forth on social media and in person for years, but the fight never materialized.

Spence and Crawford have been going back and forth on social media and in person for years, but the fight never materialized.

As for Spence Jr, he made it very clear in his post-fight interview who he wants next, saying:

“Everybody knows who I want next, I want Terence Crawford next,” declared the 32-year-old American.

“That’s the fight I want, that’s the fight everyone else wants. Terence, I’m going for that damn belt.”

Crawford himself responded to the call on Twitter and said: “Errol Spence Jr, congratulations on the great fight, now the real fight happens. No more talk, no more side of the street, come on!

A fight between Spence Jr and Crawford would be for the undisputed world welterweight championship, with ‘Bud’ putting the WBO title on the table.

Until now, boxing politics and a lack of cooperation between promotion companies had prevented the fight from taking place.

However, with Crawford now a free agent, he’s a realistic possibility Let’s see this super fight next.
