Serge Gnabry has always had Arsenal close to his heart since he left for Germany.

The winger played for the Gunners between 2012 and 2016 but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular as he only made 18 appearances for the club before joining Werder Bremen. The German revived his Bundesliga career before eventually moving to Bayern Munich. become one of their best players.

It’s a notable change for Gnabry and he has no hard feelings towards Arsenal that didn’t work out, he needed to leave to realize his potential. However, Gnabry has not forgotten his roots, especially when he declared that “North London is red” after scoring four goals against tottenham in the Champions League in 2019 to the delight of the Emirati faithful.

And with Gnabry’s future up in the air, he’s naturally been linked with a return to the Gunners. The striker only has one year left on his contract and he affirms will not sign an extension with the possibility that the player leaves as a free agent.

Bayern could cash in on Gnabry in the next window, which could help ease Sadio Mane’s move as Liverpool he placed a £42.5 million price tag on the Senegal international. Bayern are reported to be willing to listen to offers for Gnabry in the region of £33m and Arsenal cannot be ruled out as a possible landing place given what the player has said about his former club.

The Bayern star spoke about his departure from north London admitting it was the hardest decision he has ever made but praised Mikel Arteta’s team.

He told Pro Direct in 2019: “It was the hardest decision, but I think it worked out well because I wanted to play. But as a club, Arsenal are the best, the best.”

It remains to be seen how interested Arsenal would be in a potential Gnabry transfer, but Arsenal boss Arteta has previously admitted who is a big fan of the tricky winger. “I think he has a lot of quality,” Arteta told the club’s media in 2014 when they were both teammates.

“He has something that not many players on this team have, which is the pace and the ability to go and beat people. That’s why the coach put him in: three up front is something that helps us to be more incisive.”

“He’s like a little boxer, he’s a little fighter. He’s good. He’s got a lot of character too. The boy isn’t intimidated either because it’s a derby.”
