Chelsea transfer news: Blues ‘ready for second centre-back’ with Jules Kounde deal close

Now that the last bureaucracy blocking Boehly’s acquisition has been removed, Chelsea are out of transfer limbo, with spending to begin with a £68m outlay on the Sevilla centre-back.

Chelsea’s £4.25m acquisition of Todd Boehly has given head coach Thomas Tuchel the green light for a £200m overhaul of his team this summer.

The government’s approval of the consortium headed by LA Dodgers co-owner Boehly effectively takes the Blues out of transfer limbo. With Antonio Rudiger, Thomas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso leaving Stamford Bridge, Tuchel intends to move fast to bring in wholesale reinforcements for his depleted defence.

JULY FIRST

Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde is expected to be the first signing of the Boehly era at SW6, with a £68m deal close to being agreed. The French international is widely said to be interested in the move and has been handed Rudiger’s role as executor of the Chelsea defense. Once the red tape of the acquisition has been eliminated, Tuchel hopes to close a deal with Sevilla.

CHELSEA FINDS ANOTHER JOSÉ TO LOVE

Another centre-back high on Tuchel’s wish list is Atletico Madrid’s Uruguayan José Giménez, valued at £45m.

The 27-year-old has been at his current club for nine years and has been one of the pillars of Diego Simeone’s impressive defense at the Wanda Metropolitano.

THE BLUES FACE BATTLE WITH UNITED AND THE SPURS FOR TORRES

Less certain of a move to Stamford Bridge, amid strong interest from tottenham Y manchester united, is the Villarreal defender Pau Torres. Spurs accepted a £42m offer for the 25-year-old Spain international last summer, only for the player to opt for another season with the Yellow Submarine due to his Champions League intervention.

According to Spanish outlet Cadena SER, Spurs have submitted an equivalent offer, but United have joined the offer with chelseaand Torres is believed to be interested in a move to Old Trafford, despite the relative obscurity of Europa League football next season.

TUCHEL MAKES A MOVE FOR JOSKO

Croatian centre-back Josko Gvardiol, who has drawn rave reviews at Red Bull Leipzig in Germany, is another defender on Tuchel’s radar.

At 20, he’s one of the most coveted young defenders in the Bundesliga, and it wouldn’t be cheap because he’s under contract until 2026. But after breaking into the Croatian squad last year, Gvardiol is known to be wary of moving clubs on the account. back for the World Cup in Qatar.

TUCHEL ALSO WANTS A FORWARD

Another Leipzig hot property, £60m valued French striker Christopher Nkunku, is one of Tuchel’s main targets at the top of the pitch to accompany his platoon of new centre-backs.

Nkunku, 24, would be serious competition for Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in the Blues front-row. Tuchel also intends to bring back Albanian striker Armando Broja from his season-long loan at Southampton compete for first-team football at Chelsea next season.
