Catherine did not try the terrifying before buying it and decided, unlike her peers, to try it after buying it. Though Catherine braced herself for the loud rattle as she spun the scarecrow, she wasn’t prepared for the antique to break and part of it to fall to the ground.

“Oh my God!” She exclaimed, “Oh great, why did that happen? What did I do?

“I mean, I did what you’re supposed to do. I can’t believe this; this is the worst thing that’s ever happened.”

Bargain Hunt fans have demanded that Catherine Southon be removed from the show

After Catherine broke the item, the seller tried to save the day. He said, “We could fix it, we have a very good workshop. If I say [it will cost] £20, if it costs more I’ll keep the difference, but we’ll work it out.”

Unfortunately, the day could not be saved. After paying £85 for the item and its restoration, Jack and Jordan got just £45 at auction for the scare and made a total loss on all four items, including Catherine’s additional purchase, of £98.

Although Jack and Jordan seemed to take the loss well enough, angry Bargain Hunt fans demanded that Catherine be written off the show. Andy Gibson wrote: “Catherine Southon should be banned from @BBCBargainHunt after ripping up an article she clearly has no regrets about.

“That’s someone’s livelihood and she’s making jokes like it’s no big deal. Anyone else would have to pay full price.”

He then added: “I feel bad for the blue team because I want them to lose because of Catherine Southon. Maybe @BBCBargainHunt can have them again at a later date with an expert who isn’t going to break things.”

Meanwhile, others argued that the team should not have had to foot the bill for the repair. Carl Draper said, “The team shouldn’t suffer for the stupid expert who breaks the object.”

DJ Fyne added: “The £20 repair fee should be removed as it was not the teams fault.”

Catherine arguably seemed upset after breaking the rattle and offered to take Jack and Jordan out for a meal or a beer to make up for her mistake. The Red Team ultimately took the Bargain Hunt crown, after making a £35 profit, even after their bonus purchase was declined.
