Ally McCoist in a cheeky Celtic dig as she talks about Rangers’ 6 million fans in Seville’s Europa League final prospect

smiling Ally McCoist has dealt a blow to Celtic’s fan numbers in the UEFA Cup final as Rangers eye a run to Sevilla.

Gio van Bronckhorst’s men would follow in the footsteps of their rivals in 2003 if they overcome RB Leipzig and reach the Europa League final.

Ibrox hero McCoist allowed himself to look ahead to the potential masterpiece as he discussed progress to the final with Alan Brazil.

However, he admitted to co-host Celtic-daft on talkSPORT’s Breakfast Show that the German team would go into the semi-final as favourites.

McCoist raved about his old team’s exploits in the Europa League so far, saying: “It’s unbelievable.




“Do you remember they lost their first two games in the group stage? They ended up taking eight of the next 12 points and then eliminated Dortmund, Red Star and Braga.

“Some of his performances in Europe have been incredible, especially for Dortmund.

“The only thing I would say is that I would hate for someone to underestimate RB Leipzig. I looked at it and since Christmas, Leipzig have been the best team in Germany, including Dortmund and Munich.

Brazil asked: “Could it be an all-British final? Or could it be an all-German final?

McCoist said: “I’m looking forward to West Ham beating Frankfurt. I think Rangers are second favorites against Leipzig, however the way they have been playing in Europe you never know.”

Brazil responded: “I was waiting for West Ham against Rangers and I thought ‘NATO will have to get involved here’. I don’t even want to think about it.”

McCoist laughed: “They would need to play that European game on the moon. Can you imagine trying to get tickets?

Brazil said: “Normally you think ‘wait a minute, this draw is fixed’ but they kept Liverpool and City apart and Rangers and West Ham.”

McCoist continued: “It would be absolutely amazing. It would be fantastic. I texted Joe Cole, he was absolutely ecstatic about West Ham and I texted him and said ‘I’d love to see you in the final mate’ and he texted me saying ‘that would be great wouldn’t it?’”
